Somatic Counseling, Supervision and Trauma Therapy for Transformative Growth
Specializing in Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting and EMDR Modalities
At this time I am not accepting new clients.
Located in Bellingham, WA, Kendall Cline specializes in trauma-focused, restorative counseling to help you and your loved ones decrease triggers and increase resilient, adaptive responses to life’s stressors.
Many people think their issues are irresolvable, that they just have to "live with it." My clinical experience tells me that's just not the case...
Greetings and welcome. I’m glad you’re here. If you are looking for a different approach to healing than just talk therapy, you’re in the right place.
Together, we will take a holistic approach to wellness, integrating neuroscience, attachment theory, polyvagal theory and embodiment practices. I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) and am trained in SE Touch for developmental/early childhood trauma - I use Somatic Experiencing throughout sessions because it is just so good at connecting us to our bodies and helping release stuck trauma in the body and nervous system. We may also incorporate EMDR, Brainspotting, and parts work to address current stressors, acute traumas, ongoing early childhood trauma, anxiety/depression, grief and loss, PTSD, concussions, interpersonal conflict, attachment issues, anger issues and more. Our work goes beyond talk therapy to regulate and restore your nervous system.

“Changing the memories that form the way we see ourselves also changes the way we view others. Therefore, our relationships, job performance, what we are willing to do or are able to resist, all move in a positive direction.”
~ Francine Shapiro, PhD, EMDR originator and developer
I believe our present-day distress has complex roots.
Our nervous systems are shaped both by our relationships and by the larger systems we live inside of. When experiences overwhelm our capacity to cope — or when we repeatedly receive messages that we are unsafe, unseen, or not enough — those experiences can settle into the body.
Trauma can look many different ways. It might be a humiliating moment in childhood, ongoing emotional or physical harm, racial or gendered microaggressions, a car accident, medical trauma, or experiences of war or displacement. No matter the form, pain can leave an imprint in the body. Over time, it can give rise to quiet, persistent beliefs such as: I’m not safe. I’m too much. I’m failing. I have to stay in control.
When something in daily life touches these old wounds, the nervous system can become overwhelmed again. You might notice anxiety, depression, shame, nightmares, physical symptoms, emotional numbness, or patterns like self-blame, withdrawal, reactivity, or turning to substances to cope.
It’s important to know that these responses are not failures. They are intelligent survival strategies that helped you get through what you were facing at the time. They made sense then — even if they no longer serve you now.
Trauma often happens in relationship, and healing does too. In therapy, we move gently and at your pace. We create a grounded, supportive space where the parts of you still holding pain can be acknowledged rather than pushed away. We use centering, mindfulness, and body-based tools to help your system feel safer and more regulated.
I draw from neurobiological, “bottom-up” approaches such as Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting, and EMDR to help the nervous system process what it couldn’t before. Through this work, you can access internal resources that weren’t available at the time of the trauma.
Over time, experiences that once defined you begin to feel more like something that happened to you — not something you are. You learn to recognize both expansion and contraction in your system, respond with more compassion, and meet yourself with the understanding: I am doing my best.
Counseling and Supervision Services
Individual Counseling
I integrate Somatic Experiencing (SE), Internal Family Systems (IFS), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting, grounding and mindfulness practices, emotionally focused therapy (EFT), relational cultural therapy, systemic and feminist frameworks that recognize the significance of intersectionality and impacts of dominant culture on our varying identities. Bottom-up approaches differ from CBT and other talk-therapy modalities, and sessions help develop a solid relationship with your internal bodily experience, or felt sense, thereby increasing confidence, assertiveness, and agency.
Sessions are $175. I accept private pay only. Superbills are available for self-reimbursement from your insurance. I work with adults only.
EMDR Consultation
I am a Certified EMDRIA therapist and consultant. As such, I can provide the 20 needed hours for EMDR therapists seeking EMDRIA certification after taking parts 1 & 2 of the EMDR Basic training.
In addition to standard protocol, I have training in EMDR & dissociation from Mosquera and Paulsen, Recent Traumatic Events Protocol/Group Traumatic Events Proctor (R-TEP/G-TEP), Ad de Jongh and Susie Mattheison’s EMDR 2.0 and C-PTSD, and FLASH Technique. I integrate teachings from Dolores Mosquera, Robin Shapiro, Jim Knipe, April Steele, Sandra Paulsen, Katie O’Shea, and more. I consider parts work and somatic approaches to be integral in successful re-processing.
Counseling Supervision
I love working with other therapists. I am a resource junkie and love to share! My style is non-hierarchical, person-centered, social justice-oriented and reflective. Of course, associate-level therapists also receive support around core practice areas, including culturally responsive case conceptualization and treatment planning; theoretical development; record keeping; legal and ethical issues and responsibilities; insurance billing and private practice business development.
Associates seeking EMDR certification hours can also get those through our supervision, so you can get some cost savings that way (2 for 1!).
I am also available for trauma-focused community or institutional presentations, seminars, or gatherings. These offerings are crafted to meet the needs of the organization and its focus. See my bio below for information on past presentations.
About Trauma Therapy Approaches
Somatic Experiencing, Brainspotting, and EMDR are all dynamic modalities for working with trauma. Here’s a bit about each of them:
This video outlines Peter Levine’s groundbreaking therapeutic modality, Somatic Experiencing, a 3-year training program. It helps resolve symptoms of trauma, regulates the nervous system, and often resolves other symptoms that were thought to be unrelated to the original trauma.
Brainspotting (BSP) was discovered in 2003 by David Grand, Ph.D. Over 15,000 therapists across the world have been trained in BSP.
“Where we look affects how we feel.” Brainspotting makes use of this natural phenomenon through its use of relevant eye positions. This helps the Brainspotting therapist to locate, focus, process and release a wide range of emotionally and bodily-based conditions. It has been shown that Brainspotting taps into and harnesses the body’s natural self-scanning, self-healing ability. When a Brainspot is stimulated, the deep brain appears to reflexively signal the therapist that the source of the problem has been found. Brainspotting can be used to find and strengthen our natural resources and resilience. Brainspotting is designed as a therapeutic tool that can be integrated into many of the healing modalities, and can also be used for performance and creativity enhancement.
